During the inaugural Vietnam ESG Forum—hosted by Dân trí Newspaper under the theme “Sustainable Development Strategy in the New Era”—Mr. Phạm Tuấn Anh shared Petrovietnam’s strategic vision during its profound transition to align with global trends in sustainable development.

Mr.Phạm Tuấn Anh stressed that in the face of significant fluctuations in the global economy and energy sector, transforming the growth model is no longer optional but a pressing necessity for economic conglomerates, including Petrovietnam. Resource depletion, oil price volatility, environmental protection demands, and the global shift toward clean energy have made innovation more urgent than ever.

“The integration of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles with scientific and technological innovation and digital transformation is essential for enhancing Petrovietnam’s competitiveness, adaptability, and long-term sustainability,” Mr. Phạm Tuấn Anh stated.

Acknowledging the limitations of the traditional growth model, Petrovietnam is undergoing a comprehensive restructuring to position itself as a national industrial-energy conglomerate, built on three strategic pillars: Energy, Industry, and Services.

The Energy pillar encompasses not only traditional oil and gas exploration and processing but also a strong focus on renewable and emerging energy sources such as wind, solar, nuclear, and green hydrogen. This move underscores Petrovietnam’s commitment to participating in the global energy transition while safeguarding national energy security.

The Industry pillar prioritizes areas like petrochemical refining, clean fuel production, eco-friendly chemicals, energy equipment manufacturing, and mineral exploitation, with the goal of increasing product value, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to national industrialization and modernization.

The Services pillar includes oil and gas engineering services, financial services, logistics, technology, and training—sectors identified by Petrovietnam as holding significant future growth potential.

Since 2015, Petrovietnam has published annual Sustainable Development Reports in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, demonstrating transparency and its commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

In environmental stewardship, the Group prioritizes emission reduction, waste management, post-extraction restoration, biodiversity conservation, and the adoption of clean production technologies. It is also investing in green technologies such as Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) to mitigate environmental impact.

On the social front, Petrovietnam is committed to building a safe, equitable, and diverse work environment while actively supporting local communities in project areas and nationwide.

In corporate governance, the Group continuously modernizes its systems to enhance transparency and efficiency, strengthening the oversight functions of the Board of Members and internal control mechanisms.

Amidst the sweeping changes of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Petrovietnam considers science, innovation, and digital transformation as critical foundations for competitiveness. The Group is investing heavily in emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data. It is also implementing a strategic roadmap encompassing 10 core technologies and developing an open innovation ecosystem connected to national and international networks.

“Digital transformation is one of our top strategic priorities. The integrated application of digital technologies enables Petrovietnam to optimize production, improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance management efficiency,” Mr. Phạm Tuấn Anh noted.

Looking ahead, Petrovietnam is determined to play a pioneering role in the green transition, transforming its growth model and fostering sustainable development in the national energy sector.
