On behalf of Equinor’s leaders, Mr. Jen Økland introduced to Chairman Hoang Quoc Vuong about some outstanding activities of Equinor. Equinor is a Norwegian National Oil and Gas Group. After 50 years of establishment and development, Equinor has become the largest energy group in Scandinavia... Since the early 2000s, Equinor has been making green transition to forms of renewable energy, especially offshore wind power. Equinor has successfully applied its experience from its oil and gas operations to the offshore wind power sector.

Petrovietnam Chairman of the Board of Directors Hoang Quoc Vuong received Equinor leader
Equinor has become one of the world’s leading investors in the offshore wind power industry, with a total capacity of more than 10 GW of projects already in operation and under construction in the US and Europe, including the world’s largest offshore wind power plant under construction in the United Kingdom. In particular, Equinor is currently the world leader in development of floating-foundation offshore wind power and is researching and deploying this technology in Asia.
Technological innovation is at the core of Equinor’s development, whereby Equinor has successfully researched, developed and applied the most suitable fixed foundation technology for offshore wind power plants in the US, as well as floating foundation technology for offshore wind power plants in Norway.

Overview of the meeting
Currently, Equinor is providing energy from offshore wind power to more than one million households in Europe and is expanding the market to developing countries. Vietnam will be its key market in Asia in the near future. As a leading energy enterprise in Vietnam, Petrovietnam has many potentials and advantages in the implementation of energy projects, especially offshore projects. The cooperation between the two groups to take advantage of the experience and available resources will bring success to the offshore wind power industry in particular and the renewable energy sector in general.
As emphasized by Chairman Hoang Quoc Vuong at the meeting, Petrovietnam is the country’s leading economic group, performing the government’s macroeconomic regulation role and making great contributions to the state budget. With more than 60 years of experience in the oil and gas and energy sectors, Petrovietnam has expanded its production and business activities in 14 countries around the world. In Vietnam, Petrovietnam is the nucleus of forming the country’s concentrated oil and gas industrial parks in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Ca Mau, Quang Ngai, Da Nang, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, Thai Binh…
Petrovietnam has built a complete and synchronous energy industry system from oil and gas exploration and production to gas-electricity industry development, oil and gas processing, oil and gas services. In the field of electricity, Petrovietnam has the second largest production output in the country and has experience in wind power investment in Phu Quy project. In addition, Petrovietnam is the leading experienced unit in Southeast Asia in the field of processing, manufacturing, assembling, transporting and constructing offshore construction items.
According to Chairman Hoang Quoc Vuong, it is in the priority direction of developing clean, sustainable energy sources and is based on experience, operational strengths and available infrastructure in the field of offshore oil and gas production, Petrovietnam welcomes cooperation with capable and experienced partners like Equinor.
In March 2021, Petrovietnam and Equinor signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly research and develop offshore wind power and other types of renewable energy. Through preliminary research and assessment of potential, Petrovietnam and Equinor worked with local authorities and agreed to select a number of offshore areas, about 50 nautical miles from the coast, to develop the project
Petrovietnam and Equinor are waiting for the competent authorities to consider, approve and create conditions for the two sides to jointly organize research and survey of the above-said sea areas as a basis for making project investment and development report in accordance with the law when approved by the competent authorities.
Promoting the strengths with rich capacity, experience, modern and large-scale infrastructure for offshore oil and gas activities and strong financial potential, associated with enhanced protection of national sovereignty over sea and islands, leaders of Petrovietnam and Equinor jointly expressed their belief in the success of offshore wind power projects if permitted by competent authorities.
