This is the first time the annual ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting is held online with the participation of Ministers/ Heads of energy delegations of 10 ASEAN member countries; partner countries in the framework of energy cooperation of ASEAN+3 (Japan, China and Korea), ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE), ASEAN Council on Petroleum (ASCOPE) Secretariat, partners in the framework of AMEM…
The Vietnamese side was represented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity (EVN), and Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN).

At these events, the Ministers/ Heads of delegations of countries approved the contents (i) Results of end-of-term evaluation on the implementation of ASEAN Action Plan on Energy, Phase 1 (2016 - 2020); (ii) ASEAN Action Plan on Energy, Phase 2 (2021 - 2025); (iii) “ASEAN Energy Outlook” Publication No.6 and the Joint Statement of the ASEAN Energy Ministers on energy cooperation in the region.

Vietnamese delegation attended AMEM 38
As part of events of the Meeting, the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF 2020) took place from 18th to 20th November 2020, jointly organized online by the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam with the topic “Adaptive and cohesive energy roadmaps for ASEAN”. The forum was attended with speech delivered by the Ministers/ Heads of energy delegations from 10 ASEAN member countries; Representatives of leaders of large corporations such as Total, Exxon Mobil, Huawei, Petronas, Eni, Siemens, Mitsubishi, JCOAL, EVN ...; Representatives of IEA, IRENA, Bloomberg NEF, World Bank. Deputy President of the Group Pham Tien Dung attended and gave a speech with the topic “Energy transition and strategy of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group”. The forum brought together senior policymakers and large enterprises in the region and in the world, was an opportunity for Petrovietnam to share experiences and receive valuable comments in strategic planning towards developing stably and sustainably, making an important contribution to the energy transition in Vietnam.

At the 38th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting, Mr. Tran Hong Nam, Secretary General of ASCOPE reported on the results achieved of the ASEAN Gas Pipeline Integration Program undertaken by ASCOPE in the ASEAN Action Plan on Energy, Phase 1 (2016-2020); Proposed Plan for Phase 2 (2021-2025), whereby ASCOPE offered specific action plans to achieve the goal of promoting the development of the common gas market for ASEAN. In addition, ASCOPE Secretary General Tran Hong Nam reported on the results of research on using LNG in sea transport that ASCOPE completed.

It was appreciated at the meeting that ASCOPE included the recommendations of the White Paper on the gas industry that ASCOPE completed in 2018 into the ASEAN Action Plan on Energy for Phase 2. The Ministers also welcomed the results of the Research on using LNG in the sea transport by ASCOPE and believed that the result would contribute to ASEAN’s efforts for energy transition in the region.
