PetroVietnam has been investing in the energy solutions including transforming natural gas into electricity to enhance our reliability and help sastisfy power demand for national economic growth. We hold interests in gas fired power generation assets and was the second electricity producer in Vietnam.
In 2007, PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) - a member of PetroVietnam was established to manage and operate investment projects in power industry. PV Power has proved to ensure the effectively and profitably operation, maintainance of gas power plants, hydropower plants and coal-fired power facilities. Project management for these assets was also our priority that draw the attention from our Group leaders, departments and PMUs.
PetroVietnam is now operating 04 gas to power plants, 03 hydro-power plants and 01 coal-fired one with total capacity of 4,208.2MW including: Ca Mau 1 & 2: 1500 MW, Nhon Trach 1: 450 MW, Nhon Trach 2: 750 MW, Hua Na Hydropower: 180 MW, Dakdrinh: 125 MW, Nam Cat: 3.2 MW and Vung Ang 1 thermal power plant: 1200 MW.
In the coming periods, we are actively accelerating construction progress of more 04 coal-fired powerplants: Long Phu 1, Quang Trach, Song Hau 1 and Thai Binh 2 and speeding up the research and development of gas fired projects in Kien Giang from Block B and Ca Voi Xanh field and LNG projects (Nhon Trach 3, Son My 2).
Our ambition in power industry
Based on the Development Strategy by 2025, vision to 2035 and updated database in the 7th Power Master Plan of the Institute of Energy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) until 31/12/2015, we targeted our electricity production to make up for 15.3% in 2015, 18% in 2025, and 16.9% by 2030 of total production nationwide.
