In the field of Power Industry and Renewable Energy, Petrovietnam is proud to be the second largest electricity producer in Vietnam and the largest gas-electricity producer in the country.
Petrovietnam is managing and operating 4 gas power plants, 2 coal-fired power plants and 2 hydropower plants with a total installed capacity of 5405 Mega Watt, equivalent to 8% of the total installed capacity of the national power system, accounting for 10-12% of the national electricity production. In 2022, Petrovietnam strives to put Thai Binh 2 thermal power plant into commercial operation. 

Petrovietnam is promoting the research and development of gas power projects with priority given to using domestic gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG), aiming to use existing infrastructure to strongly develop renewable energy sources, prioritizing the use of offshore wind power in combination with oil and gas activities, contributing to the protection of national sovereignty and security at sea.

Big-scaled power facilities

In the past years, Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) has been implementing big-scaled power facilities such as Ca Mau Power Center including 2 gas-fired power plants with total capacity of 1,500MW (commercial operation at the end of 2008) and Nhon Trach Gas-Fired Power Plant No.1 with capacity of 450MW, which provides nearly 10 billion KWh for the national electricity grid, sharing the burden with Electricity of Vietnam and ensuring power supply for production and lives of the people.
