CIP wishes to cooperate with Petrovietnam in renewable energy projects

(PetroTimes) - On 20th April, at the headquarters of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), Chairman of the Board of Directors Hoang Quoc Vuong had a meeting and worked with Mr. Niels Horst – New Markets Fund Managing Director of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).

Also in attendance were Petrovietnam Vice President Pham Tien Dzung and leaders of the Electricity and Renewable Energy Division, Administration Office. 

At the meeting, Mr. Niels Horst introduced to Petrovietnam’s leaders about CIP’s fields of operation. CIP was established in 2012 and is the world’s leading project investor and developer in the field of offshore wind power. When it was first established, CIP focused on investment in developed countries. Currently, CIP is expanding its market to developing countries and Vietnam will be its key market in Asia in the near future.

With its role and position as the leading energy enterprise in Vietnam, Petrovietnam has many potentials and advantages in the implementation of energy projects. Therefore, CIP leader hope to cooperate with Petrovietnam in renewable energy projects in the near future, especially offshore wind power projects in Vietnam. 

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Hoang Quoc Vuong emphasized that in the Group’s development strategy, besides the oil and gas exploration and production as the core field, electricity and renewable energy is also one of the development orientations of Petrovietnam. 

According to Chairman Hoang Quoc Vuong, development of renewable energy is one of the major orientations of the Vietnamese Government in implementing the commitment to net zero emissions by 2030. Besides, in the draft Power Plan VIII, there will be 7GW of offshore wind power capacity to be expectedly developed from now to 2030. 


Overview of the meeting

With many years of experience in offshore activities along with its potential and advantages, Petrovietnam believes that the Government will trust to assign it to develop offshore wind power projects in the near future. To implement these projects, Petrovietnam wishes to cooperate and exchange information with experienced and capable partners in the field of offshore wind power such as CIP. 

Chairman Hoang Quoc Vuong hopes that CIP and Petrovietnam will continue to have meetings, exchange information, seek cooperation opportunities in the field of renewable energy, especially offshore wind power projects. At the same time, Petrovietnam leader express his belief that the field of offshore wind power will have good development potential in the coming time, contributing to ensuring national energy security and meeting the energy demand for the country’s development.
